Vols vs. Auburn... A Fearless Prediction
Last year I had the misfortune of witnessing perhaps the worst quarter of offensive football in the history of the Southeastern Conference.
Tennessee and Auburn set football back about 75 years with their performance. That 4th quarter can be summed up in the following few words...
"Three and out..."
The Vols would punt, then the Tigers would punt, then the Vols would punt and, well... you get the idea.
Auburn hung on for a 14-12 victory. I always thought Tennessee should have just punted each time they got the football. Their defense had a better shot at scoring then the offense did.
Fast forward one year. Tennessee's offense is a little better... or a little worse... depending on who you talk to.
Auburn's offense? By all accounts, is a lot better. After four games, they are ranked third in the nation in points scored and in total yards. New offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn had turned things around down on "The Plains."
The Tigers have yet to face a defense like Tennessee's, and they have yet to play on the road, but until Tennessee proves they can do enough on offense to win a game like this one, I can't pick them to win.
Prediction:
Auburn 24
Tennessee 13
What do you think?
