Next stop: Oklahoma City
The Lady Vols softball team, by all accounts, was supposed to be a year away. With freshmen and sophomores all over the lineup, Tennessee should have been too young and inexperienced to advance to the Women's College World Series.
No one told that to the Lady Vols...
Their two game sweep at Michigan, a team that returned almost everyone from the previous seasons WCWS squad, opened up a lot of eyes in the softball world.
Ralph and Karen Weekly, co-head coaches of the Lady Vols, have secured a top 5 recruiting class for next season, so trips to Oklahoma City could become a regular thing once again, just like they were from 2005-2007, when Monica Abbott was in the pitchers circle.
But maybe those teams counted too much on Abbott, like the Vols football team did with Peyton Manning. This team doesn't rely on any one player. This team has more offensive firepower than those Lady Vols teams.
And this team... isn't planning on a short stay later this week in OKC.
