Rickey Henderson... one of a kind

Submitted by Mark Nagi on July 26, 2009 - 11:00am

On Sunday the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown opened its doors one more time.

Boston slugger Jim Rice was finally, and most deservingly, inducted.  But the must-see tv moment was when Rickey Henderson gave his induction speech.

Rickey is the all-time major league baseball leader in stolen bases with 1406, runs with 2295, and lead-off homers with 81.  Ricky was a ten-time all-star and a two-time world series champion.

Rickey also spoke of himself in the third-person...

Pete Rose... should not be in the Hall of Fame

Submitted by Mark Nagi on July 27, 2009 - 11:35am

On Monday news broke that MLB commissioner Bud Selig is seriously considering lifting Pete Rose's lifetime ban from baseball, and making him eligible for the Hall of Fame.

Rose agreed to permanent ineligibility from baseball in 1989, after allegations surfaced that he wagered on Cincinnati Reds games. He was managing the Reds while betting on baseball.

For years he maintained that he was innocent, before finally coming clean in 2004, right around the time he was selling a tell-all book.

2009 World Series... A Fearless Prediction

Submitted by Mark Nagi on October 27, 2009 - 8:08pm

Ok folks, first things first... Full disclosure.  I have been a Yankees fan since I was a little kid.  I was eight years old when I went to my first game.  It was April of 1981, and the Yankees beat the Texas Rangers 5-1.

One of my fondest childhood memories was watching the Yankees rally with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to beat the California Angels in the summer of 1983.

To this day I still think the George Brett pinetar ruling was originally correct, and never should have been overturned.

Don Mattingly is my favorite athlete

Tennessee baseball: A work in progress

Submitted by Mark Nagi on April 25, 2010 - 10:08pm

I was at Lindsey Nelson Stadium for the first game of the Vols doubleheader against Vanderbilt on Sunday afternoon.

Tennessee gave up a game tying homer in the final inning.  They lost their cool after a couple of calls from the men in blue.  They bunted into a double play...

But they still won, thanks to a walk-off homer from Blake Forsythe.  Tennessee won the nightcap in walk-off fashion as well.  In short, nothing comes easy for these guys.

The Vols are fighting to get into the SEC tournament.  If they finish in the top 8, they'll pl
